Applying Afghanistan tourist visa for Malaysian is pretty simple. But we were forced to take a messy route for the visa. Every time we called the Embassy of The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan regarding visa application, the officer answering the call will give us different requirements.

Requirements and steps:

We decided to prepared the necessary documents and just go to the embassy and apply. The requirements are:

– Passport

– 2 passport photos

– USD 80

– Invitation letter from a host in Afghanistan

Then:

  1. Go to the Embassy of The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan located in Wisma Sin Heap Lee near Jalan tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.
  2. Tell the officer that we are applying for tourist visa, and fill out form.
  3. Go to Maybank and pay the fee over the counter into the given account name.
  4. Back to the embassy with the bank challan.
  5. Wait for 3 working days for the visa to be approved

Embassy drama

Unfortunately when we arrived at the embassy, the officer told us that we need clearance from the Wisma Putra or Ministry of Foreign Affair in which to get the clearance certificate, will take another 2 months. Or else we can get the invitation letter be stamped by notary public and stamped by Wisma Putra. So we did the later option. Wasted almost RM100, higher officer in Wisma Putra told us that we don’t need the letter of invitation or even clearance from them to travel to Afghanistan as it is not one of the requirement to obtain the visa.

Wisma Putra made a call to the embassy and talked to them regarding our applications. Then we have to go back to the embassy and apply for the visa as piece of cake. We filled the application form, paid the application fee of USD 80, and hand over the passport and photos and we are done.

The visa will be issued 3 days after applications. Visa is valid up 3 months from issuance date, once activated, valid for 30 days stay in Afghanistan. It is a single entry visa.
